There is no doubt there are numerous blogs being started everyday. However, I feel that many people either aren't interested in starting a blog or even furthermore, don't know what a blog is. I think this year people who have no clue what a blog is, will probably start a blog. It will be like how people didn't know what social networking was with, but everyone somehow ended up on Facebook or MySpace.
That said, along with the growth of the blogosphere, there is no doubt that more blogs = more competition. My prediction is that more blogs will be personal, but with that there will be more blogs in each niche by the fantasy new bloggers will see about "making easy money" by blogging. 50% of those blogs started will probably wipe off the web in the first week or two of starting.
What you can do...
Having more competition doesn't have to drag you down. Make this be the best year yet for you and your blog. Promote it like you didn't in the past. Write better posts and try to gear your posts towards a different audience. If you are serious about blogging, set your priorities and get known for your topic before someone else steals your thunder!
I've been paying more attention to my entrepreneur blog over the past few weeks and I've seen tremendous growth because I've been publishing a lot more frequently than I previously did. I think that my reputation definitely helped in the growth of Venture Level, but it wasn't easy bringing the blog up. Even though I have a solid reputation, it is more difficult for me to bring Blab Web to the next level because there is a lot more competition.
Nonetheless, I will still be publishing and do see growth, even if it doesn't compare to Venture Level. I've been promoting less, but have seen traffic increase and subscriber counts increase as well. This is where it all starts to show that good content finds it's way around the web sifting through that 70% -or so, that is useless information. I wouldn't say that I will stop promoting, but now that my blog has been broken in for awhile now, it's time to let the content do the work and find the readers instead of me finding the readers.
